LA Canvas Access

LAs provide support to students in various course modalities, including hybrid and online courses. LAs are automatically granted LA2 access to Canvas, enabling them to access course materials, facilitate discussions, and perform other necessary tasks. There are three levels of LA canvas access: LA1, LA2, and LA3. Each subsequent level grants LAs increased access and permissions on Canvas. The table below summarizes the key differences between the three levels of access (see table below).

Summary of Levels of LA Canvas Access

For a more detailed summary of the differences between each level of access, please see the table “Full description of permission on Canvas by LA Access” at the bottom of this page

LA2 Access

All LAs are automatically granted LA2 access to Canvas once they have completed hiring. LAs are undergraduate students and, therefore, should not have access to the course gradebook. LA2 provides LAs with sufficient access to fulfill their duties.

LA3 Access

In rare cases, LAs are granted special access to more functionality. Faculty may request for an LA to have an elevated access to Canvas. This is known as LA3 access.  The LA program reserves the right to decline a request for LA3 access that does not align with the LA model guidelines. Both faculty and LAs should fulfill the following requirements:
