The LA Program at FIU

Learning Assistants (LAs) are undergraduate students, who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions with faculty and a mandatory pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active student engagement.

The LA Program at FIU, a part of the STEM Transformation Institute, is currently the largest LA program in the US. In Fall 2015, the Provost announced a university-wide initiative and positioned the LA program to play a vital role in the transformation of undergraduate STEM courses. The LA model, that is the foundation of the LA program. The LA Program at FIU is an active participant in the LA Alliance.
