Teaching with LAs Workshop Series: Designing Group-Worthy Activities I & II

Teaching with LAs: Designing Group-Worthy Activities I & II

One of the core elements of designing an effective course with LAs are the group activities. Please join the LA Program in collaboration with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching, to learn, discuss, and practice creating meaningful activities that help students learn the most important ideas in your discipline.

The summer series includes 2 workshops. In the first workshop, you will learn how to assess activities for ‘group-worthiness’ and in the second workshop, you will learn about implementation of these activities and will have ample time to design your own activity and give and receive feedback from faculty peers.

As we prepare to teach in person in the Fall, we will reflect together on challenges and opportunities as well as on the innovative teaching that occurred when we were teaching on zoom – what worked and what did not? what do we want to keep?

When:

  • Designing Group-Worth Activities I: Thursday, May 6th, 2-4 pm
  • Designing Group-Worthy Activities II: Friday, May 7th, 10-12 pm

Both workshops will be offered virtually via Zoom. We strongly recommend attending both workshops so you can continue working with the same faculty peers.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, May 5th by clicking here.

We have a limited number of $250 stipends available for those who attend both sessions. To receive a stipend faculty will be required to submit a copy of their original and redesigned activity as well as a written reflection. This workshop is provided in collaboration with Dr. Tekla Nicolas and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CAT).
